Thomas J. Rana Foroohar, global economic analyst, CNN, will take up her new post as the Financial Times associate editor this spring.  Prior to joining the Financial Times and CNN, Ms. Foroohar was the assistant managing editor for business and economics at Time and served as an economic and foreign affairs editor and foreign correspondent for Newsweek.  In addition to receiving numerous awards and fellowships from many organizations, including the Johns Hopkins School of International Affairs and the East–West Center at the University of Hawaii, she is also a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a recipient of the German Marshall Fund’s Peter Weitz Prize for transatlantic reporting,  A frequent economic and political contributor to New York City’s public radio station, WNYC, she appears frequently on NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and the BBC.  She has appeared numerous times on programs such as “Real Time with Bill Maher,” “Face the Nation,” “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”  Foroohar earned a B.A. in English literature, Barnard College, Columbia University.

McIntire School of Business, University of Virginia

Michael Gallmeyer, professor, McIntire School of Business, University of Virginia, specializes in studying how market imperfections influence security prices and trade.  Professor Gallmeyer’s current research focuses on heterogeneous beliefs, taxation, trading constraints, and monetary policy.  He also serves as an associate editor for Mathematics and Financial Economics.  Before joining the McIntire faculty, he was on the faculty at the Mays Business School, Texas A&M University, and Tepper School of Business,  Carnegie Mellon University. Ron Galloway, researcher and filmmaker, studies the disruptive effects of new technologies in finance.  Mr. Galloway served as a research analyst for Smith Barney from 1985-1995, before founding Method Research, an institutional research firm.  The author of Ambient Intelligence, a study of the integration of sensors and data mining, he has presented his research globally.  Galloway directed the business documentary, “‘Why Walmart Works,” the first film to ever premiere in the U.S. Capitol building and his film, “Age Invaders,” will be released in March 2017 on Netflix and Amazon Video.  He has been featured on CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, BBC, ABC’s “World News Tonight,” as well as in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The New Yorker.  He earned a B.S. in industrial management, Georgia Institute of Technology.

Sharna Goldseker, executive director, 21/64, specializes in next-generation and multigenerational engagement in philanthropy and family enterprise.  Ms. Goldseker coaches, consults, facilitates educational programs, and speaks on generational transitions often using 21/64's uniquely developed tools.  She also facilitates a network of next-gen donors who are exploring their identity and impact, and trains other advisors on 21/64's approach to multigenerational engagement.  She is editor of The Grandparent Legacy Project and co-author of #NextGenDonors, a first-of-its-kind study of high-capacity next-gen donors in the United States. John Goldstein, managing director, Goldman Sachs Asset Management. Is focused on environmental, social, governance, and impact investing.  Previously, Mr. Goldstein co-founded Imprint Capital Advisors, a leading impact investing firm that made more than 25 impact investments across asset classes and mission areas for leading foundations, families, and financial institutions (in 2015, Imprint Capital was acquired by Goldman Sachs).  Before that, he was the co-founder of Medley Capital and manager of the Medley Opportunity Fund, a private credit fund with offices in New York, San Francisco, and Hong Kong.  Before Medley, he managed the turnaround, growth, and eventual sale of Medley Global Advisors (MGA).  In parallel, he founded and served as the executive director of the Medley Institute. Dana Jackson, managing director of investments and institutional consulting director, Graystone Consulting, is responsible for investment policy plans, asset allocation, performance evaluation, risk management, manager selection and oversight.  Mr. Jackson leads a Graystone Consulting team that focuses on endowments, foundations, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals. Rene Martel, executive vice president, PIMCO, is head of pension solutions in the Americas and focuses on liability-driven investments, asset allocation and asset-liability management strategies for pension funds and insurance companies.  Prior to joining PIMCO in 2006, Mr. Martel was responsible for conducting asset-liability modeling and recommending risk management strategies for pension plan sponsors at Mercer Investment Consulting. Dale Yahnke, founding partner, Dowling & Yahnke, is an independent, fee-only registered investment adviser.  Mr. Yahnke’s firm currently manages $3 billion for more than 1,000 clients  (primarily individuals, families, endowments and foundations).  Previously, he worked as a financial analyst with the law firm of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now known as DLA Piper US LLP), and has served as an expert witness in investment and securities related matters.  He has been featured in numerous financial publications including Barron’s, Worth, and The Wall Street Journal. In 2016, he was recognized for the tenth consecutive year by Barron’s as one of its “Top 100 Independent Financial Advisors” in the country. He was also named to the Barron’s 2015 Top Advisor Rankings: California (second consecutive year).  Yahnke holds the designations Chartered Financial Analyst and Certified Financial Planner. He earned a B.S. in economics, Claremont McKenna College, and an M.B.A in finance, San Diego State University.

Booking a room in the IMCA room block is an important way to support the association and keep overall meeting costs as low as possible. Location
The San Diego Convention Center and the hotels in IMCA’s room blocks are located in the heart of downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. The San Diego International Airport is three miles from downtown San Diego. Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego and Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina do not provide shuttle service to and from the airport.

Getting to downtown San Diego from the airport is easy with many options.

  • A taxi from the airport to downtown is approximately $15 each way.
  • Shuttle service is available through Super Shuttle.
  • Shared ride services such as Uber and Lyft operate from the airport. Once you request your ride, follow the signs for “App-Enabled Ride Share Services” to meet your driver.

Parking
Parking is available at the San Diego Convention Center in an underground garage. Enter the parking garage on Harbor Drive between 1st and 5th Avenues. Standard parking is $15 per day. Payment is due upon entry and there are no in-and-out privileges (note that prices may vary when major events are in downtown San Diego).

Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego offers self- and valet-parking. Self-parking is $32 per night for overnight guests and $7 per hour (with a daily maximum of $35 per day) for non-overnight guests. Valet-parking is $47 per night for overnight guests and $10 per hour for the first hour/$8 every additional hour (with a daily maximum of $49) for non-overnight guests.

Cancellation/Transfer Policy
Cancellations for conference registration must be received in writing. Please send cancellation requests to [email protected]. The registration fee less $50 cancellation fee will be refunded for cancellations received by April 10, 2017. A 30-percent cancellation fee will be applied for cancellations received between April 11 and April 24, 2017. No refunds will be granted for cancellations received after April 24, 2017 or for nonattendance.

IMCA is excited to offer CIMA®, CIMC®, CPWA®, and CFP® certificants a convenient and hassle-free method of reporting continuing education credit earned at IMCA conferences through our radio frequency identification (RFID) system.

Your attendance at individual conference sessions is automatically recorded using RFID technology as you enter each session. Be sure to wear your conference badge at all times to ensure that you are properly credited for the sessions you attend. You will not be able to earn or report CE credit to IMCA, the CFP Board of Standards, or other leading certification bodies without this proof of attendance.

IMCA Certification (CIMA, CIMC, CPWA). This program will provide up to 24 hours of live and online CE credit, including one hour of ethics CE credit. CE hours for IMCA credit can be earned in two ways:

Earn up to 19 hours by attending sessions during the conference. Your attendance at individual conference sessions is automatically recorded using RFID technology as you enter each session. Be sure to wear your conference badge at all times to ensure that you are properly credited for the sessions you attend. 

Earn up to five hours by watching recorded “Bonus CE” sessions after the conference. As an attendee benefit, IMCA will offer attendees five hours of “Bonus CE.” Log in to My IMCA after the conference and go to “My Webinars and Videos” to access the videos. You must watch at least 50 minutes of each archived video on your computer to earn CE credit for that program.

Earn an additional two or three hours of continuing education by attending optional pre-and-post conference workshops:

  • Optional pre-conference workshops on Sunday, April 30 for 3 hours of CE.
  • Optional CFP only post-conference workshop on Wednesday, May 3 for 2 hours of ethics CE.

IMCA will upload all CE earned directly to your My IMCA record within two weeks of the activity. The program is subject to change. Due to audio-visual challenges and speaker permissions, we may not be able to indicate which sessions will be offered as “Bonus CE” programs. This may affect the type and total number of hours delivered.

CFP® Certification. This program will be submitted to the CFP Board for review. IMCA will report your attendance at individual conference sessions to the CFP Board on your behalf. Note that you must complete the following steps:

  • Provide your CFP ID to IMCA. Enter your CFP ID in My IMCA in the “Update my demographics information” section. You also may enter your CFP ID when you register for a conference.
  • Wear your conference badge at all times so your attendance at individual sessions is recorded using RFID technology.
  • IMCA will report the sessions you attend directly to the CFP Board. The CFP Board will notify you when this occurs.

Please note that IMCA is not able to report to the CFP Board on your behalf if we do not have an accurate CFP ID. NASBA CPE Credit. IMCA is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy as a sponsor of CE on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors (ID 106054).
