James Pupillo, managing director and partner, HighTower, Scottsdale, began his career in 1987 with E.F. Hutton’s Consulting Group (now Morgan Stanley Graystone Consulting). In 2007, Mr. Pupillo began conceptual development of LDi-MAP with Frank Sortino at the Pension Research Institute. He was chosen as one of “America’s top 100” investment management consultants screened in 2006-2012 and ranked number one in Arizona in 2009 by Barron’s. His credentials include the Certified Investment Management Analyst® designation offered by IMCA through The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; Accredited Investment Fiduciary from the Center for Fiduciary Studies; Certified 401 (k) Professional™ offered by The Retirement Advisor University (TRAU) through the Anderson School of Management, University of California, Los Angeles; American Indian Policy Institute Tribal Financial Management certification from Arizona State University; and Global Fiduciary Strategist® offered by 3ethos through the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Pupillo serves on the National Association of Plan Advisors Government Affairs Committee and is an adjunct lecturer for TRAU’s Plan Sponsor University. He has served as president of the Institute for Investment Management Consultants and the Association for Investment Professional Investment Consultants, where he was the recipient of the John Coggins, Harry Irvine, and Tom Gorman Awards for leadership innovation and client dedication. An author of and contributor to numerous books on the subject of advanced portfolio construction and fiduciary responsibility, he is an active volunteer for many organizations and currently, the director of the Yavapai Indian Foundation.
